Happiness and Reason!

Now another conversation with a good friend who is so shy and doesnt want his name mentioned :-)

I told him I am feeling very happy lately. He asked me if there is any particular reason. Well I told him there aint any reason at all, just feeling happy.

I added:
"U know happiness rarely has a reason
sadness does have reason/s"

Then he says "that is what i call bliss"

I go on:
"if it has a reason
once the reason goes
happiness goes away
too"

Further I mentioned "I feel like a saint suddenly :-)"

He jokes: "Mata Satyadarshini"

PS: Hey friend you missed reaching celebrity status by not having ur name published on this blog ;-)

Happiness

Manish is a true friend. Though I havent known him from long, he has really been a great friend during my tough times.

We were just chatting up on messenger where he mentioned about watching a movie "The Pursuit of Happyness" where a struggling salesman (Will Smith) takes custody of his son. Manish says that life is so strange and its ways. He was quite touched by the movie.

I couldnt help remark the following from my experience in the past 1 month:
"Happiness is the only way, the natural state of being. We can be happy for a long time but when we are sad we are uncomfortable. We want to get back to be happy again. And when we shed our sadness and do so there is a sudden freedom and feeling of naturalness"

Also I felt that doesnt mean that bad things shouldnt happen. I was sharing with Manish "Bad experiences are blessings from God for our growth. They help us learn, move on and get happier :-) "

I wanted to capture this conversation so that we dont miss on this learning we created by this conversation.

Landmark in Action!!!

Hey Landmark friends, just want to inform that getting into action :-)

Keep watching my other blog for updates:

The world isn't cruel, it's indifferent

I was really upset from past few days bcos a person I thought was my friend was behaving cruelly, wouldnt bother to communicate or respond. So I thought let me check what Paul's tips site had to say and I read a beautiful article. Its not about being cruel, its about being indifferent. We just dont form in the scheme of things in every life we meet. I value friendship a lot and it hurt me greatly but then reading this article I realized that people have their own agendas and too busy in that and rarely care for the sensitivities of others.

Check this article:
"Many people feel the world is conspiring against them somehow. It's the classic symptom of suicidal thinking - "Good-bye cruel world" and all that. People believe others are plotting against them, or that mysterious forces beyond their control are manipulating events negatively.

It's a comforting thought to believe there's some kind of plan to it all. It keeps psychics, astrologers, new age gurus and other such "experts" in business. It also helps to maintain the illusion we all like to have that we are somehow at the center of the universe, with everything revolving around us.

I believe the evidence points to the fact that reality is much colder than that. The world is not cruel or kind to us, but overwhelmingly indifferent. Whether we live or die, are happy or sad, are safe or in danger, most of what's out there just couldn't care less. And that includes the vast majority of people and things we interact with.

Of course, there are small islands of caring among this ocean of indifference. Your parents and friends probably worry about you occasionally. The guy you're competing with at work for a promotion probably thinks about you. The cops will investigate if you're murdered, and the officials at city hall will probably do their best to prevent you from slipping on their sidewalks. But these are all just drops in the lake of reality we must live in. Most of the people we meet, most of the objects we interact with, and most of the forces that affect us are completely unconcerned with our wants and needs...."

Where's the party tonight? :-)

This is Nidhi's fav song and when she steps out of home she sings "Where's the party tonight? "
Writing this post as I wait for Srid to pick me up. He is a sweetie..:-) after 7 years of married life..still loves to pick me up and spend a romantic evening out ;-)

Anyways I am a party person and wish all the parties we had here during Dec and Jan just come back..but it looks like some wait for the gang to get together again!! :-)

Hey Srid is here...more tmrw..:-)

What are values?

Tim and I were discussing further and the discussion came upon values:

Tim says: "just the way i would see my so called decent friends with values"
I ask: "What are values?" (I knew Tim understands what I was heading to, because values is something defined by we humans. As my title of the blog, everything is the Truth, the right the wrong, everything :-) )

Anyways Tim replies: "values is something that is created by me/agreed upon in consensus with other, which is not really carved in the stone"

Oh that was beautiful way to put it.

And then further he says "which allways makes u fall flat on ur face"

We label, we define situations, people etc. We give meaning to everything and take it as Truth. But what is Truth? Its the meaningless approach to everything. Thats when we are able to see the Truth. As very well said in the Landmark Education "Forum":
"Life is empty and meaningless and its empty and meaningless that life is empty and meaningless"

Krishna's Response!

Chapter 2

verse 1: Sanjaya said: Lord Krishna thus spoke these words unto griefstricken Arjuna, whose saddened eyes were brimming with tears being overhelmed by compassion

verse 2: Lord Krishna said: O Arjuna from where has this illusion of yours appeared in this moment of crisis? This is not befitting honorable men nor conducive to the attainment of heavenly spheres and is the cause of infamy

verse 3: O Arjuna do not yield to unmanliness, this is not worthy of you. O chastiser of enemies giving up this base weakness of heart rise up.

verse 4: Arjuna said: O Krishna how can I counterattack with arrows in battle, Bhisma and Drona who are worthy of respect, O annihilator of enemies

verse 7: Now my natural qualities are beseiged by weakness and apprehension and my thinking bewildered regarding righteousness. I am asking you to please state what is definitely good for me. I am your disciple, surrendered to you, kindly instruct me.

verse 11: Lord Krishna said: you are mourning for those who are not worthy of sorrow, yet speaking like one knowledgeable. The learned neither laments for the dead or the living

verse 12: Certainly never at any time did I not exist, nor you, nor all these kings and certainly never shall we cease to exist in the future

verse 13: Just as in the physical body of the embodied being is the process of childhood, youth and old age; similarly by the transmigration from one body to another the wise are never deluded.

verse 14: O Arjuna, only the interaction of senses and sense objects give cold, heat, pleasure and pain. These things are temporary, appearing and disapperaing; therefore try to tolerate them

verse 15: O noblest of men, that person of wise judgement equipoised in happiness and distress, whom cannot be disturbed by these is certainly eligible for liberation.

verse 16: In the unreal there is no duration and in the real there is no cessation; indeed the conclusion between both the two has been analyzed by the knowers of the truth

verse 17: But know that by whom is this entire body is pervaded, is indestructible. No one is able to cause the destruction of the imperishable soul.

verse 18: The embodied soul is eternal in existence, indestructible and infinite, only the material body is factually perishable; therefore fight O Arjuna

verse 19: Anyone who thinks the soul is the slayer and anyone who thinks the soul is slain both of them are in ignorance, the soul never slays nor is slain

verse 20: The soul never takes birth and never dies at any time nor does it come into being again when the body is created. The soul is birthless, eternal, imperishable and timeless and is never destroyed when the body is destroyed.

verse 21: Oh Arjuna, one who knows the soul as eternal, unborn, undeteriorating and indestructible; how does that person cause death to anyone and whom does he slay?

verse 22: Just as a man giving up old worn out garments accepts other new apparrel, in the same way the embodied soul giving up old and worn out bodies verily accepts new bodies

verse 24: The soul is indestructible, the soul is incombustible, insoluble and unwitherable. The soul is eternal, all-pervading, unmodifiable, immovable and primordial

verse 26: O mighty armed one, even if you think the soul always takes birth or is always subject to death even then you should not lament

verse 27: For one who has taken birth, death is certain and for one who is dead, birth is certain; therefore you ought not to lament for an inevitable situation.

verse 28: O Arjuna, of created beings before birth is unknown, between birth and death is known and after death is again unknown; therefore what is the cause of lamentation.

verse 31: Moreover considering your righteousness you should not falter; indeed for upholders of justice there does not exist a more appropriate endeavour than a battle of righteousness

verse 33: However if you do not engage in this war of righteousness then abandoning your natural spiritual duty and reputation you will incur sinful reaction.

verse 35: The mighty chariot warriors will consider that you retired from the battlefield out of fear and for those whom you have been held in great esteem you will fall into disgrace.

verse 37: Either being slain you will attain the heavenly worlds or by gaining victory you will enjoy the Earth; therefore O Arjuna, confident of success rise up and fight.

verse 38: Being equipoised in happiness and unhappiness, profit and loss, victory and defeat; thereafter prepare for battle and this way you will not incur sinful reaction

Arjuna's predicament

Sridhar is reading the Bhagavad Gita lately. I had started too a year back but havent read it completely. Yesterday we had discussions on some chapters in there so I got inspired to start catching up on its teachings.

Chapter 1,
verse 28: Arjuna said: O Krishna, seeing all these kinsman assembled ready for battle the limbs of my body are weakening and my mouth is drying up.

verse 29: My whole body is trembling my hair is standing on my end, my bow Gandiva is slipping from my hands and my skin is burning.

verse 30: O Krishna I am unable to keep myself composed, my mind is unsteady and I see dire indications of inauspicious omens

verse 31: O Krishna I do not see any good in slaying kinsman in this battle, nor do I desire victory, nor a kingdom or even happiness

verse 32-35: O Krishna, of what value is living for happiness if the for whom our kingdom, material pleasure and happiness is desired: preceptors, fatherly elders, sons; and grandfatherly elders, maternal uncles, fathers in law, grandsons, brothers in law and relatives are all present in the battle field ready to give up their kingdoms and very lives. O Krishna what to speak for the sake of earth, even for the rulership of the three worlds; in exchange for slaying the sons of Dhritarashtra what happiness will be derived by us?

verse 36: O Krishna by killing these aggressors sin will surely come upon us; therefore it is not proper of us to slay the sons of Dhritarashtra along with our family members; since how by slaying our own kinsmen will we be happy.

verse 37, 38: O Krishna although these men their hearts afflicted by greed do not see the sinful reaction in quarreling with friends and the crime of destroying family members; why should we not refrain from this sinful act understanding this greivous crime of destroying family members

verse 39: With the destruction of the family the spiritual traditions of the family perish forever; when spiritual values are destroyed then unrighteousness predominates the entire society.

verse 44: Alas, how strange it is that we have resolved to commit great sin. Just because of greed for royal luxuries we are prepared to slay our own kinsmen

verse 45: Even if the sons of Dhritrashtra armed with weapons in hands slay unarmed and unresisting on the battlefield that would be considered better for me

verse 46: Sanjaya said: This having spoken Arjuna cast aside his bow and arrows on the battlefield and sat down on the seat of the chariot his mind ovehelmed with deep sorrow

And This Too Shall Pass

I was on google chat with Tim. Tim is my friend from 9 years. We discuss lot of things under the sun. Also we are there for each other when things go tough :-)

I asked him about how things were, last time he mentioned that he wasnt happy about some aspect of work, and then came out with these words:

"nothing lasts for ever sats"
"the worst of the experiences we have to move ahead"
the best of the experience we still...have to move ahead
so its okay
so not making a big deal of anything"

This reminded me of the King Solomon story we read as kids. You can check this link if you have forgotten:

Some excerpts from Kahlil Gibran's work

I am reading this book "Selected Works of Kahlil Gibran", he has gone to such depths in discovering the human soul!

Some quotes:

"Our most sacred tears never seek our eyes"

"Every thought I have imprisoned in expression I must free by my deeds"

"Even the hands that make crowns of thorns are better than idle hands"

Reading time

Have been reading 2 books parallely, one by Irving Stone and the other by Kahlil Gibran. Both have deep insights and wonderful quotes. Sharing this one for today:

"We are cast in flesh but must live as Iron"

This is from Irving Stone's Novel.

Will give more details on my book reading in the next post.
Till then enjoy this post I had written 2 years back :-)

I dreamt of you!!

Dreaming and life is no different. When truth is the same in life as well as dreams. :-)
When living in pain becomes joy!! Life's purpose is attained!!!

When pain doesnt feel pain anymore and beautiful dreams show the way!! Woooh...I am blessed!

To love God and you feels the same and I dream of you!!!

God is my Love

As my friend Tim remarks Pain is a good thing. Its a sign of growing, movement upwards and getting close to God.

My being is in God, in his pursuit and in his love. I have embarked on the journey to be in one with God.

I was in pain and searched for you and found you God within me. My life now has no pain but just love for God and all his creation.

Living life for just oneself gives none joy. Life is about giving and forgiving. Its about the road we take to be one with him.

Now joy has no bounds, love has no limits, life has a meaning and purpose!! :-)

Whats with me?

I found my right job, I love it. Work is great, satisfies me. Love my family and we are having great times together. I had pained times when I lost my brother or when there were tensions in the family. I am supposed to be happy now but frankly I dont feel different from the times I experienced pain.

Is happiness not meant for us or is it that we dont appreciate whats around? Or is pain created for us to keep learning and growing.

I was having a long chat with a friend on the phone and he was discussing about some problems he had in his relationship. I told him I dont have any problems anywhere and still feel pained. He came out with this interesting levels of problems people are dealing with. There are people dealing with basic problems of food, shelter, clothing etc. Then the next level which he considered himself is the problem of dealing with relationships, job problems etc. And he declared that I was at a level where I had it all and still facing a problem and well he couldnt help laugh about it and I couldnt help wonder whats wrong with my life.

Why aint I Happy? What do we need to be happy? A good job, a good family, good friends or more...?

Yesterday a friend told me that she tried calling me when I was walking by but I was engrossed in another world. Which world is true this world or the other world? :-)
Someone remarked a week back "What are you thinking so much?"

What do you I say "I have bared my soul" and lost it. I search for it and now I am a dead person walking around.
Give me my soul, if you can dear friends I will then find my true happiness !!!

Love by Kahlil Gibran

Then said Almitra, 'Speak to us of Love.'

And he raised his head and looked upon the people, and there fell a stillness upon them.

And with a great voice he said:

When love beckons to you follow him,

Though his ways are hard and steep.

And when his wings enfold you yield to him,

Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.

And when he speaks to you believe in him,

Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.

For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.

Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,

So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.

He threshes you to make you naked.

He sifts you to free you from your husks.

He grinds you to whiteness.

He kneads you until you are pliant;

And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.

All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.

But if in your fear you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure,

Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor,

Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.

Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.

Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;

For love is sufficient unto love.

When you love you should not say, 'God is in my heart,' but rather, I am in the heart of God.'

And think not you can direct the course of love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.

Love has no other desire but to fulfil itself.

But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:

To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.

To know the pain of too much tenderness.

To be wounded by your own understanding of love;

And to bleed willingly and joyfully.

To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;

To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;

To return home at eventide with gratitude;

And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

Chants

I love chanting this: (all in my being today)

Shri Krishna Sharanam Mamah
Shri Krishna Sharanam Mamah
Shri Krishna Sharanam Mamah

Another fav one:

Om Namah Shivayah Shivaya namah Om
Om Namah Shivayah Shivaya namah Om
Om Namah Shivayah Shivaya namah Om

How Do I Love Thee?

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.

I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Om Mahalakshmi

Om Mahalakshmyai cha vidmahe
Vishnu patnyai cha dhimahi
Tanno Lakshmihi prachodayat

Translation: "Om. Let us meditate on the Great Goddess Sri Lakshmi, the consort of Sri Maha Vishnu. May that effulgent Maha Lakshmi Devi inspire and illumine our mind and understanding"

Dont feel like writing

chingaaree koee bhadake, to saawan use bhujaye
saawan jo agan lagaaye, use kaun bhujaye?
patjhad jo baag ujaade, wo baag bahaar khilaaye
jo baag bahaar mein ujade, use kaun khilaaye?

hum se mat poochho kaise, mandir tootaa sapanon kaa
logon kee baat naheen hai, ye kissaa hain apanon kaa
koee dushman thhens lagaaye, to meet jiyaa bahalaaye
manameet jo ghaanw lagaaye, use kaun mitaye?

naa jaane kyaa ho jaataa, jaane hum kyaa kar jaate
peete hain to jindaa hai, naa pite to mar jaate
duniyaa jo pyaasaa rakhe, to madiraa pyaas bhujaye
madiraa jo pyaas lagaaye, use kaun bhujaye?

maanaa toofaan ke aage, naheen chalataa jor kisee kaa

Pain

And a woman spoke, saying, 'Tell us of Pain.'

And he said:

Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.

Even as the stone of the fruit must break, that its heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain.

And could you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles of your life, your pain would not seem less wondrous than your joy;

And you would accept the seasons of your heart, even as you have always accepted the seasons that pass over your fields.

And you would watch with serenity through the winters of your grief.

Much of your pain is self-chosen.

It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self.

Therefore trust the physician, and drink his remedy in silence and tranquillity:

For his hand, though heavy and hard, is guided by the tender hand of the Unseen,

And the cup he brings, though it burn your lips, has been fashioned of the clay which the Potter has moistened with His own sacred tears.

Kahlil Gibran

Why did God create Pain? :-)

I wonder why life when its so happy and for no reason a storm comes by and leaves behind Pain :-)
Kept thinking about this and wondering why God would do that.

Pain is for the Heart what intellect is for the Brain. Pain keeps our heart cells active and stimulated :-)

I thank GOD for the pain, the lessons learnt and the love in my heart.
